After what for me was a very disappointing result in the General election, it was very warming to be present for Oscar Gillespie winning a seat by a landslide of 7 votes for the Greens in Cambridge.
It would have been just four votes but Labour insisted on a recount, though to be fare, he was also only 13 ahead of the Liberal Democrats so if Labour hadn’t asked for one they probably would have.
Not sure if what I saw was a final figure but the site I found something on said the Greens at that time had a net gain of 12 seats on local councils.
A change in the voting system would I think have meant another 2 greens being elected locally and a lot more nationally in both local and general elections.
