Yesterday, the bees in the observation hive were feeling the heat. A significant number were hanging on the end of the hive where the entrance is. This behaviour which looks a bit like the bees gathering as a swarm is actually common in hot weather. I am always impressed by it when it happens and enjoy the sight.
I would guess there are upwards of 20,000 bees on the outside of the hive with a similar number if not more inside.
I have seen this behaviour before but not to quite the same extent. There is always something new when keeping bees!
